How To Clean Your Makeup Brushes

So it turns out I’ve been cleaning my makeup brushes completely wrong my entire life. Not only was it taking me an unnecessary amount of time but they were never as clean as I wanted them to be. Recently I came across a very helpful simple process to get all the gross makeup and gunk off of my precious beauty tools.

The Wrong Way

They way I’ve been cleaning them is with either dish soap or the brush cleaner you can buy at most stores. Then using my hands I would rub soap into the brushes and rinse them until the water became clear. This was taking such a long time and I put in a lot more effort than I needed to.

The Right Way!

This method is not only faster but easier on your wallet since you don’t need to buy any special brush cleansers just simply ingredients that you can find in your kitchen. These are the steps to properly clean your brushes:

  • Mix these ingredients into a bowl or cup that you can stand your brushes in face down

1 Tablespoon of dish soap1 Tablespoon of either distilled white or apple cider vinegar (these help remove makeup and dirt). 1 Cup of hot water

  • Soak the brushes for 20 minutes.
  • Rinse all the soap out while making sure you get any clumps of makeup in the middle.
  • Lay them out to dry.

It’s as simple as that! There is a brush cleaner that is said to clean and dry your brushes in seconds. I’m definitely going to track one down and review it soon.
